Deputy Jason McCall

On September 20, 2018, Deputy McCall along with Deputy Morgan was dispatched to 1014 Adrian Street, Apartment B in reference to an attempted suicide. Upon arrival, the two deputies observed an unresponsive female lying on the ground with a male sitting on the left side of her. Both deputies observed the female was not breathing and a male attempting to give her CPR. Deputy McCall also observed the female subject’s face turning blue.  Deputy McCall then began giving chest compressions. Deputies advised the male to give the unresponsive female 2 breaths after each 30 chest compressions administered.  The female began breathing after 4 cycles of chest compressions and breaths. The subject became stable enough to sit up as a Gold Cross supervisor checked her vitals. The subject was transported to University Hospital’s Emergency room by South Star Med 14. A life was saved as a result of Deputy McCall and Deputy Morgan promptly responding to render aid to the unresponsive female.

On May 30, 2018, Deputy Christopher Hill and Deputy Alexander Morgan spotted smoke coming from the area of 1300 Howe Street. Upon arrival, both deputies observed first responders from Engine Company 5 removing a subject from the inside of the burning residence. They quickly began to render assistance to an unresponsive male. Deputy Hill and Deputy Morgan immediately started CPR on the subject until Rescue 1 arrived on scene and relieved them from CPR. The subject was revived, and transported to AUMC for further medical treatment. Due to the quick actions of Deputy Christopher Hill and Deputy Alexander Morgan, they were able to help save the life of the unresponsive citizen.Deputy Christopher Hill is an asset to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Augusta Richmond County.

Deputy Michael Murphy,

On March 24, 2018 an inmate at the Charles B. Webster detention center was being treated in Medical Exam Room #1 for injuries sustained in an altercation. While being treated for the injuries,the inmate had a seizure and went into Cardiac Arrest.  There was only one nurse on duty during this incident.  Deputy Devante Brown along with Deputy Carl Cerasulo III, Deputy Adam Kleba and Deputy Michael Murphy began CPR as Nurse Irvin was getting the AED activated. Deputies continued to rotate out doing chest compressions and closely  following instructions given by the AED until instructed to stop.

Corporal Tim Rzasa,

On March 4, 2018, Deputy Travis Clark responded to an apartment on Essie McIntyre Blvd. in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, Deputy Clark found the subject inside the residence with his son and daughter. The mother of his children was at the scene to retrieve the children.  Deputy Clark noted that the subject was acting erratic. Corporal Rzasa arrived on scene and was able to determine that the subject had no legitimization paperwork for the children. After learning this, the subject became agitated and stated that he was going to come out and kill everyone. Corporal Rzasa called for additional units, Deputies Alexander Morgan, Joseph Csria, and Elvin Thompson arrived quickly on the scene. The subject then threatened to kill his son and stated, "Everyone is going to die in here tonight."  Deputies could hear through the door the son screaming that he did not want to die and then screamed, "Daddy, NO!" Deputies entered the apartment, where the subject was found lying on his back with his arm around the neck of his son. Deputy Clark had to drive stun the subject with his Taser while other deputies attempted to free the child. The subject then began to physically fight and resist the deputies before being handcuff.
