Citizens Firearms Class

The Citizens Firearms Class is a one day eight-hour class that allows Richmond County residents to become familiar with the firearms they own or may be purchasing in the future.  The fee is $20.00. The class is taught at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Training Center located at 2098 Greenland Rd. Blythe, Georgia. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has classes each year in April and October.

We believe it is the responsibility of every gun owner to be as educated and as safe as possible. This course is designed for anyone with an interest in: firearms, their safe handling, and the safe storage of guns, an understanding of Georgia gun laws and enhancing their shooting skills.

The class consists of a half day of classroom lecture/training and then after lunch, which will be provided by the Sheriff’s Office, the class will move to the firing range for practical skills application of the material discussed in the class.Upon completion of the class you will receive a certificate and a gun lock. We hope that you enjoy the class and take away something that is going to benefit you, the responsible gun owner.

  • All participants will be required to be a resident of Richmond County
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Submit to a background check
  • No criminal record
  • Bring your own weapon
  • 100 rounds of ammunition for your weapon
  • Bring safety glasses
  • Bring ear protection
  • Cap with a front bill
  • Holster and a sturdy belt (Holster must be designed to securely retain the firearms in the holster during movement such as bending, sitting, etc.)

With the submission of this form, you will affirm that you have read and fully understand the above information, assumptions of risk and waiver and release of all claims. Please bring your original social security card, a state issued picture ID, and the $20 fee.
